Description for Bluff Creek Ranch
Anyone who thinks that a solid intermediate level course requires rocks has never been to Bluff Creek Ranch, its the oldest Mountain bike ranch in Texas. Located on the edge of the "lost pines" area of Central Texas, the terrain of Bluff Creek is more reminiscent of Northeast Texas or southern Arkansas ... lots of tall trees, rolling hills, fast dirt track, and plenty of big roots and creek drops.
For those familiar with Walnut Creek in Austin, Bluff Creek takes some of the better elements of that course and expands upon them. The front part of the course winds and twists through the trees, dropping into and out of a creek multiple times, then you ride through a pasture (Bluff Creek Ranch is a working cattle ranch specializing in hormone-free longhorns) before dropping precipitously off the bluff that gives Bluff Creek its name.
Bluff Creek has a full service campground, including running water, a hose for washing down your bike, and hot showers. Current 2010 fee is $8 to ride or $10 to camp and ride. See web site for other rules.

7.5 miles of well-groomed single track. One way and well marked. Great continuity and progressive challenges. I'd rate this as technicallly intermediate. Very few places you might have to step off with moderate skills and endurance. Host / property owners are great.

Great ride with some quite challenging parts towards the end (both downhill and climbing challenges). The section along Gas Pass is my particular favorite with great whooptiedoo's along a cliff edge. First rider of the day gets spider webs all over them in the back hay field. I would recommend passing the back meadow portion and do the ~5.2 mile loop once or twice instead. Trail is very nicely marked and owners are super nice. Trail in some sections is in need of some love to prevent further erosion. They mentioned a soon expansion with new trail design and more mileage!
