I know that riding on this trail is technically not allowed. Thats crazy, a result of an interest group wanting ownership of the trail, short sighted. I usually repect closed trails. However, This is a great ride out of my back door, too good to pass up. Single track, switchbacks, roots rocks and dicey short downhill sections. Isolation and great vistas are my favorite part of this ride. I ride several times a week, and am never bored. Last two years the trails were vandalized to harrass the bikers. I expect it to happen again. This trail should be open to bikers. Claims of trail damage are inaccurate. I see a lot of litter left by hikers that cause more blight that any bike damage. I always travel with a bag and carry some the litter I encounter out. The trail is narrow, plenty of solitude. Not a fast trail more of a technical challenge with narrow undulating terrain and frequent surprises. I see deer on almost every AM ride. This is in the middle of NYC.
