I'm from Baton Rouge and no one ever talks about this place and many don't even know about the trails. They are missing out!! Trail is about a 20 mile loop around Lake Chicot with a wide variety of terain. From the south trailhead through Walker Branch trailhead to the North trailhead is pretty steep and technical trail with some good climbs and flowing downhills. Fun for the intermediate riders and up but will frustrate newer riders with a good bit of hike-a-bike. Good news is you can bypass these sections if you feel your not up to the challenge. From the north trailhead to the East Trailhead, the trail flattens outquite a bit but still has some nice gradual climbs and downhills, bridges, lots of twisties and some beautifull views of Lake Chicot. From the East trailhead to the south is where it gets realy fun. Some awesome downhills and climbs but not too teribly hard. Some technical sections and lots of ups and downs. Super fun. I bring the family out and make the ride in abt 5 hours but we stop and eat and take our time. The Park itself is one of the nicest in LA. I would definately recomend renting one of the deluxe cabins overlooking the lake or comping for a few days to enjoy it all! As a family this is our favorite place to go. It has a little something for everyone. The north end is awesome for beginers and the South and Walker Branch is a challenge for even the hardcore riders!
