Description for Ben Hawes State Park
The riding in Ben Hawes State Park has not really been that great in recent years, however some riders have been working on improving the trails in 2010, hopefully there will be some dramatic improvements.
Currently the trails are a mix of doubletrack with a tiny bit of singletrack although we are told that more singletrack is being developed. The are has a lot of potential so find out what days trail work is occurring and offer some assistance.
Something for all skill levels, from easy open flowing log roads, more difficult double-track to very difficult singletrack. The state maintains approximately 5 miles of logging road and double-track while locals maintain the 5 miles of tight and technical singletrack. This multi-use, stacked loop network is open to hiking and cycling only. ATV and Horseback riding is prohibited. Beginner? Don't have a bike? No problem, you can rent one at the golf proshop. The singletrack is marked with ribbon and way markers. An out-and-back singletrack will direct you to the base of Barry's Shortcut and Sara Gray's Loop. From there head back into the woods up Sara Gray's Loop and the single-track loop will begin on the right. This densely wooded loop travels counterclockwise and crosses the main trail in several locations allowing you to explore many different variations. The parking lot and trail head is located at the old George H. Rudy Mines and Saw Mill.
