Description for Kuliouou Ridge Trail
There are actually two trails, the Kuli'ou'ou Valley Trail and the Kuli'ou'ou Ridge Trail.
The Valley trail is a solid (but short) intermediate trail about 1.5 miles long. The trail traverses the valley and is not overly technical, but has some tricky roots and challenging rock gardens. During certain times of year there are mango's and other fruits to be had which is a nice bonus on your ride.
The Ridge Trail is much more challenging and should not be attempted by those without strong bike handling skills. While it is only 3 miles, it is a fun ride. The Ridge trail can be accessed a few hundred yards into the valley trail, turn right and make your way up the switchbacks. There is a lot of exposure on this ride, a bad wheel placement could have severe consequences off of some fairly big cliffs. There is some hike-a-bike along the ride, but for the most part most of the trail is ridable.
Both the trails are shared with hunters so be careful and keep your wits about you.
