Description for Pigeon Mountain
Crockford Pigeon Mountain has a large network of singletrack, doubletrack and old forest service roads, and used to be one of the best riding areas in the state. However, in the past five years the singletrack and doubletrack trails have suffered a lot of user damage from horse and atv travel, while at the same time has seen very little trail work
This trail system is not mountain bike specific, but trails in the mountains that are open to bikes. It appears they get mostly horse use. The trails have not been "engineered" to shed water, so the water has turned the trail into a rock strewn creek bed/gully on some of the downhills. There are sections that cannot be ridden. There are also lots of gently rolling stretches through pretty woods. There were some trees blown down that were not passable without a dismount, but not enough to completely ruin the ride. I would not consider this a destination ride by any means, but if you're in the area and looking for something close, maybe. Not sure you could get a really hard workout on the trails because the trail direction is not always completely obvious and you must proceed with caution. Also expect hike-a-bike steeps. An adventure, sure; epic "ride", probably not. That said, with some work and lots of bike traffic, the trails do have great potential to be fast and fun.
