Deer Creek Canyon is a must ride in the Denver area. The trail is advanced so be sure to ride within your limits, it is a fast flowy singltrack that starts with a pretty intense climb on a loose rocky surface and a bit of hike-a-bike on the stairs. The reward for the climb pays off, it is some of the best singletrack we have ridden in the Front Range. Denver is lucky to have such a great trail.
Less experienced riders may get frustrated by the more technical aspects of the trail, but a strong intermediate rider should still be able to ride most of the trail and have a good time. This is not a place to bring a beginner.
Deer Creek is probably a little more advanced than my skill but I love it anyway. I end up having to hike a bit more than I should due to the technical demands of this ride. That being said it is a wonderful ride and worth the heart ache. I will definitely make this one of my regular rides.
Awesome ride, I just started riding a couple of months ago and have nothing to compare it to other than Hidden Mesa. Ride is only about 8 miles with the two loops but almost 2000' of elevation change so it kicks my ass on the way up. Once a little past the wall the ride smooths out a lot so you get a lot of everything, technical climbing, hike a bike up the wall, smooth climbing and a kick ass bomb down the hill, the ride down is well worth all the climbing. Riding down the wall is not all that hard, just intimidating, the first time up there I went down the stairs of shame, next time I grew a pair and rode down it, just lean back and go. Lots of hikers and lots of families with little ones hiking on the weekend on the lower sections.
