Description for Monarch Crest IMBA Epic
The Monarch Crest ride is a segment of the Continental Divide Trail (CDT), a 3,100-mile shared-use route from Canada to Mexico. The Monarch Crest segment offers more than 30 miles of trails and incredible mountain scenery. Commonly done as shuttle ride; expect to encounter a few thousand feet of climbing and more than 6,000 feet of fun, non-technical descending.
During the summer of 2007, mountain bikers spoke up in unprecedented numbers to support bike access on the Continental Divide Trail (CDT) - including the Monarch Crest segment. IMBA members are now eagerly awaiting the U.S. Forest Service's decision on how to handle bike access on the multi-state CDT. We look forward to working with our partners in the Forest Service - and with groups like the Continental Divide Trail Alliance - to nurture the entire CDT into an incredible shared-use mega-Epic.
Distance: About 30 miles, depending on route choice. Ride time is generally about four or five hours.
Trails: Singletrack, doubletrack and fire roads.
