Description for Horsetooth Mountain
Horsetooth Mountain gets a lot of mixed reactions, some people love, some people hate it, others think it is okay. The crowd that hates it tend to say things like, the flow is not that great, its too technical, its just a hard place to have fun. Those that love it say it is an advanced trail that will get your heart racing, technically challenge you, and that the down is amazing.
The trail is a mix of singletrack and fireroads, it certainly does have some technical section, I tend to wear my elbow pads when I ride here, it is easy to take a spill, especially when you are ripping on the downhill. I like the trail, but it is not the best in the area, if you are a good rider and want to try something new, it is totally worth checking out.
There is a parking fee at the trailhead.

I rode these trails on a fairly hot day in June. Probably not the best judgement, but I still had a great time. Some of the trails have a slight technical aspect to them, but mostly it switchbacks, single track and fire roads, and a whole lot of climbing. The scenery is of course beautiful. There are some really fun trails along the main park road that are rolling and straight enough to steal some glances at your surroundings. The main event for me was slogging up the 1200 or more vertical feet of fire road to the top of Horsetooth mountain. I don't know exactly how long it took me to get up there (I think the better part of an hour including wandering around the radio towers) but it took less than 10 minutes to get back down. You will hate the people you see coming down when you are dragging yourself up; but damn it is fun being one of those saying "Oh yeah, you're almost there". Do take lots of water, a snack, camera, and do NOT try to use your mobile phone to take a picture of a the rattlesnakes.
2 for technical, but this may just be the routes I took. I have heard there are some very very tech parts. Aerobic part is pretty hard to avoid since Horsetooth is staring you down the whole time you are riding. 3 overall; good ride. Nothing too fancy, but a nice time.
