Description for Waterton Canyon
The Waterton Canyon Colorado Trail is a great ride list if you are visiting Denver, that being said be sure to acclimate to the altitude first. The ride starts with a fireroad climb which takes you to some good singletrack. The ride is not technical but it is a good workout, it is more about the scenery then the mountain biking so be sure to bring your camera.

Waterton Canyon starts out on a non-technical fire road ascent before diverting onto a switchbacked singletrack (part of the Colorado Trail, a trail network that runs all the way from Denver to Durango.) Apart from the technique required to ride tight switchbacks, the only real challenge of Waterton is in the legs and the lungs. I rode it once on a business trip from Texas, and even after having spent a week in Denver, the elevation still got to me, and I had to stop about every 100 yards on the uphill to huff and puff.
