We tend to ride with the same group of people and rarely are we split on how good or great of a trail is, we ride similar bikes, we ride about the same amount of miles per year and we push each other to be better and better (or crazy and crazier depending on your who you ask), but Animas was one that divided us. Some hated it some loved it.
The trail starts with a pretty tough climb, up through some loose terrain with some step-ups, switchbacks and ledge-work that most intermediate riders should feel comfortable riding. Once past that is where the fun begins, super fast descents with some great kickers. All around I think this is a great trail and should be on your ride wish list.
6 mile trail 5 miles of rock garden. 1800 vertical feet of climbing in 3 miles is kind of brutal but well worth the views of the animas valley. Would have given 4 stars if it had less rock.
