Description for Noble Canyon
Noble Canyon is a local favorite trail, when we asked what is the must ride trail in San Diego? Everyone told us Noble Canyon, and they were right! The cooler summer temperatures in San Diego however to not extend out to this trail, try to get there early to avoid the heat.
We selected to ride up the trail and bomb back down the same way instead of running shuttle or grinding up the paved road. The grind up will work your lungs and your legs and is not for someone that rides infrequently and probably painful on a DH bike. Of course the grind up actually has some great downs (as those only doing the down will find). This is a fairly technical trail but an intermediate rider should be fine if they hop off the bike a few times, bring lots of water and some snacks.
From the top the trail starts off as a fast roller coaster and gets more technical as you progress back down to the lower parking area. The most technical section of the trail is known as "Stairway to Heaven" and is by far the most advanced section of the trail but completely rideable for a skilled rider. After Stairway you will have a bit more downhill fun, a couple miles of a slight grade climb through loose sand and then another fun down to end the ride (the last down was our favorite part of the ride).
The trails are well marked so you will not get lost but there are a couple of offshoots that will lead you out to the road in the event you need to bailout.

The trail sweeps through a couple of different environs. There is also also a couple of cool spots to stop and hit some sweet jumps to get like two feet of air. The trail, overall, is technical down hill. Bring your dual suspension bike and your knee and elbow pads.

shuttling up is a good way to bypass the long grind to the top. which is great cause it gives you energy for the best parts of the trail. the trail starts off with a fast singletrack with small berms and a few features. then progresses to a meadow with a gentle climb. after the scenic meadow you're back in the pines wizzing down a fast singletrack through some small and medium chunk, a couple switchbacks, and a few drops and some technical sections. a fun run along a creekbed leading to the Widowmaker. stay to the right and it's an easy line. let momentum be your friend here. A couple more gentle climbs through some chunk and you're going down Stairway. it's flat and chunky. it's only technical because you need to keep momentum through it. you almost have to pedal through stairway. after stairway, a climb known as Whore, rightly named because of the sandy trail and seemingly never ending climb. eventually it ends at the top for one of the funnest DH parts of the trail. Large berms. small drops. and a few spots of chunk. this part is fast and takes you back to the parkinglot.
this trail is a must ride. it's a lot of fun on a DH bike cause the suspension soaks everything up. a XC bike will have no problem here but it will be a rougher more technical ride.
i love this place. schedule it for a cooler day, as it tends to get really hot. and bring propper hydration and a few snacks
