Description for Sunset Ridge
This is a relatively short loop in a huge network of trails, so this could be turned into a much longer ride if desired. Sunset Ridge runs parallel to Mt. Lowe fireroad. It is much easier to pedal up the fireroad and ride down the singletrack (the fireroad is plenty steep as it is, and will have anyone breathing hard). In fact, if you're not in decent shape, you're probably going to hate the uphill. A little over 2 miles later, you will see the turn off for Sunset Ridge (to your left). From there, it's super fun singletrack all the way back to the parking lot. The ride down is relatively technical, though if you're an intermediate rider, you will be fine so long as you know your limits. Some spots have exposure, and there are numerous stairsteps, drop-offs, and rocky sections. It's a very fun ride, and definitely a must do if you're in the area.
Directions to Sunset Ridge Trailhead
Drive up Loma Alta in Altadena until you get to Chaney Trail (yellow, blinking light). Head up Chaney Trail until you get to a gate. You can park at the gate, which is where the fireroad starts. You are supposed to have an adventure pass to park there, but they don't check very often.
