Description for JPL Brown Mountain
The JPL Brown Mountain Trail is about a mile from the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) and makes a great place to do training rides for those that work or live in the area. The ride is a fireroad ride that pretty much any skill level of rider can handle, but there are tons of other trails that can easily be added to extend the ride and up the fun factor (the El Prieto singletrack is a great option). There is not much in terms of shade so it is best to get out early on hot days.

This is a review for Brown Mountain only, coming back down the way you went up instead of coming down El Prieto. I wouldn't even review this ride, except that due to the fire a couple years ago as well as subsequent storms, the "fire road" has disintegrated to a trail that's actually interesting to ride downhill. It's a good, quick ride to do before/after work. The uphill is relatively challenging and a good workout. The view is nice from the saddle (if it's not too smoggy).
