Description for Dunn Rd to Cathedral Cnyn Tr
Dunn Rd. is a jeep trail that climbs to about 2200' from about 700' at the start in no more than 2 miles.
It is a steep climb.
The ride starts out in a gravel wash and then abruptly the steep stuff begins.
On a cold winter morning this climb is strenuous but when the sun hits it almost makes you want to turn around because it gets soooo hot! This is the desert after all.
Winter early mornings and late afternoon are the best times to climb this.
After about 2 miles the road flatens out a bit and the views become amazing.
The other thing is that it gets really quiet because you're now out of earshot of the valley noise below.
Also the desert vegatation changes and you start seeing lots of color.
Follow the Dunn Rd. down the long straight for half mile or so then look for a sign on the left (see photo)
This is when the real fun begins. Follow the Cathedral Canyon single track past the sign and start ripping. Keep track of the trail as it sometimes branches off in areas and can get confusing.
The top section of this trail is a fairly fast semi narrow trail with rocks and cacti jutting out in places.
The bottom gets a bit steeper and more technically challenging big loose rocks and decomposed gravel with very tight switchbacks and some painful rocky drop offs.
Have Fun and if you're lucky you'll see a Big Horn Sheep.
