The Pioneer Trail is a great entry level trail for those just starting out and are willing to push themselves. There is a fair amount of climbing and some obstacles that include roots, very small drops and step ups as well as an occasional rock. Once you reach the red gate the trail gets much more difficult but nothing that an intermediate level rider should have too much difficulty navigating. If you continue to the top there are some more advanced trails that require even more bike handling skills, most intermediate level riders turn around at this point.
The ride is typically done as an out and back, so ride as far as you would like and then reverse course to return to your start location. Although it is possible to combine the ride with other area trails to increase your mileage and up the fun factor.
