Description for B Trail
B Trail was built by mountain bicycling enthusiasts, so it might not be the best place for a hike in Upper Bidwell Park, though it is quite fun if you're fit and on the lookout for riders. It starts off at an elevation of about 1400ft and winds downward nearly 620 feet in under a mile. While that may seem like a gradual descent, it really isn't (relatively), since at first you will hike a relatively benign path for about 1500ft, and then you'll begin a fairly rapid descent. Towards the end, the trail's grade levels off for another thousand or so feet until it meets up with Upper Park Road. There are a good many switchbacks that would challenge advanced to expert mountain bicyclist.
To get to B Trail, follow the North Rim Trail for about 4 miles. Just before the trail veers sharply to the west, there will be a marker for B Trail on the right. If you'd prefer to work your way up, it can be found between lots R and S or at the end of Middle Trail.
Directions to B Trail Trailhead
B Trail begins just before the end of North Rim Trail at the top of the canyon. The rail ends at the Upper Park fire road just after passing the 'Middle Trail' trail head.

Usually start at the Easter Cross and ride up North Rim trail. I've been woefully out of shape, so it is quite a climb in the heat of the Chico summer. I go to the end of the trail, it isn't much further past where B Trail drops off and then I can say I rode to the top. After a well deserved water break, I adjust my seat down a bit and get ready to go. It is a nice fast start, then a left as B Trail drops off toward the creek. There are only a few technical sections but there are a lot of switchbacks to navigate and rocks to avoid. Overall, it is a great reward for that long climb. for me it is also a chance to redeem myself because (compared to my friends) I can go a lot faster downhill than up.
