Description for Arizona Trail Pistol Hill
If you go south from this trailhead ( towards three bridges ) the trail is actually both more aerobically and technically challenging that Sweetwater. The start is fast swoopy single track, followed by a long gentle climb. After passing the picnic grounds at Colossal Cave you begin a long, fairly steep climb. After hitting the saddle the trail becomes more rocky, this section is more technical, and is generally downhill all the way to the bridges. Return is reversed, with a couple nice long smooth downhills. If you head north (cross the road and enter through a cattle gate) it's certainly a novice trail. Fast smooth rolling single track all the way to the second gate (7 miles round trip), which is the boundary of Saguaro National Park, and is as far as you can go on a bike. Either way the ride is great and the scenery is awesome. There is no water at the trailhead, and none to the north. There is water and bathrooms at the colossal cave picnic area. Warning: Sharp chisels are dangerous and should be handled with care. Dull chisels are even more dangerous and should be sharpened.

A fun, moderate single track with just a few short technical segments and sustained but manageable climbs. Rode from Pistol Hill cattle guard parking area to Colossal Cave Park. Watch out for the cholla and beaver tail cactus - the trail is crowded by them throughout.
