I want to get an idea from everyone about what repairs they've performed on the trail. Everyone's had to fix a flat. Most, probably, have had to fix a chain. What else has happened to you? What's the most difficult fix you've had to do on the trail? Have you ever had to come up with something ingenious to solve a problem? Frame breaks fixed with duct-tape? Bottom bracket rebuilds? Shock blowouts?

I taco-ed my wheel on the Tahoe Rim Trail and had never worked on rims yet so a buddy played with the spokes for about 30 mins so the wheel would at least spin without rubbing.

I also had, past tense a Truvative crank that the non drive side would come off constantly so and this last time the threads were un reparable. And yes I had lock tight on them before. Nothing major just had to walk away from my days ride.

Last time I went up to a local ski resort, my front skewer decided to strip, enough to the point that it wouldn't tighten enough to keep the front rim on tight, but it wouldn't go loose enough to take off and repair. I ended up riding down to the bottom with a loose rim, and when I got to the bottom, I used a zip tie to keep the quick-release lever tight.

Gosh... What haven't I had to fix... I've reinforced a cracked downtube with sticks and spare tubes (it was slightly better than walking), sheared off both shift cables and had to shorten chain to make it a singlespeed. Fixed several taco'd rims and broken der. hangers... Disconnected a brake caliper because rotor was badly bent/broken

Just got back from the Womble in AR. Slit my back tire from the center of the face all the way to the bead....sharp shale out there. Tubless setup. Cut my water bottle with the same shale that cut my tire and made a boot to put on the inside of the tire so the tube wouldn't look like a hernia.... Pulled out my spare tube...it had a hole in it, probably from rubbing inside the seat bag. Walked out, 5 miles....got to my Jeep and was putting on a spare tire and tube when I discovered that my tire tools has a small compartment that contained a patch...well, the walk was ok, nice day and all, but riding would have been much better.http://motoscotch.blogspot.com/2011/04/womble-trail-ar.html
