I have the 2007 Enduro. It's the best all-mountain bike ever made! The only thing that could make it better, would be to replaced the stock Specialized fork with the Fox 36! I'm saving up my money...
I have the 2007 Enduro also!! Not the pro or anything I think it is just the Enduro, of course I have replace the crappy single actuator brakes from hayes with the Avid Elixers, but I agree with you 100% the stock fork sucks!! I have the cash right now to get the Fox fork but am not sure which one is good for all around ridding, I love downhill but don't think it is worth it without working for it with the up hill so I am an All Mountain rider. Do you think the Fox 36 is were I should go?
Oh yeah and the EVO (above) looks sick! what would it set me back? edited by MtnBiker on 7/6/2010 edited by MtnBiker on 7/6/2010

Any opinions on the Hammerschmidt? Referred to as the Hammer, Ham, or TH. I am an All Mountain rider and would like to know if the cost is worth the benefit on this? and If anyone else makes anything comparable?

I defiantly recommend the Enduro!! I love it!! 1st Pic at Mammoth Mt. I felt like the bike let me do everything I wanted to do. (Me pictured but my buddies bike, same as mine but still has reflectors and no upgrades)
2nd pic on part of the Tahoe Rim Trail. Very Beautiful!!
Upgrades: Avid Elixers, Kenda Tires, and in the market for a new front fork.

So, since we are on the Specialized topic, What would be the draw back to the SPecialized Enduro in Carbon FIber? Light, Great suspension for All Mountain, Price it high so there is the draw back! But overall it is a perfect bike!

What to carry on the trail
|
I have this same dilemma!
So far on shorter rides I just bring the water bottle and nothing else (under 12 miles)
But anything longer I bring the camelback with the tube and tools needed so I don't have to walk back to the jeep 20 mile away.
But I hate having a sweaty back from the pack!

Tracking?
|
I mentioned this when the app first came to the app store but unless you got a killer 3.0 coming with tracking and stats that can compare to the several other GPS app out there...
You should just partner with another app to allow linking your trails to open in their app and all sorts stuff!

Truck Rack ?

In the bed? Fork mount?
Price range?
If you can give a few more details I am like the rack man, have had most of them and can give some decent feed back for each.

Thule T2 and Sidearm

by that do you mean that if the arm is on the high point of the tire then the bike can be just slid backwards and taken? I have learned to just move the arm to the position the directions tell you to put it in even though it will rub the front fork and take paint off.

I have Motion X but like you find the UI pretty clunky even with the new updates. I prefer the app GPS Kit for a few reasons, UI is great and easy to handle, any maps you look at are cached and I prefer Google Terrain maps for rides as the topos are amazing! The app has a radar feature that can tell you the location of the other riders using GPS Kit and you can chat with them thru the app. The dashboard is great for ridding as I get all the stats I want on one page (unlike Motion X) the dashboard is 100% customizable. Actually tap and stat on any screen and you can customize it. I can go on and on about the features in this app the make it better than the other apps out there but then people think I am a Dev and I am not but I do keep in contact with the Dev as I Beta test future releases for them. -Elevation, Speed, Pace Graphs
-Your own webspace provided to store/host all your gpx files.
-Change color of your arrow thing and trail, or make your trails colored by elevation or speed.
-my wife can launch the app on her phone and see exactly were I am and how fast I am moving (as long as I have cell signal) and for those that don't want the wife to know your location you have over 1 million possible channels to change your radar to or just turn it off.
-Screen (not device) turns off when the light sensor is covered, saves tons of power. Low power mode. Can run the app 100% even after hitting the lock button.
Ok so I went off on a few of the features that differ from the rest.

Trail Repairs
|
I taco-ed my wheel on the Tahoe Rim Trail and had never worked on rims yet so a buddy played with the spokes for about 30 mins so the wheel would at least spin without rubbing.
I also had, past tense a Truvative crank that the non drive side would come off constantly so and this last time the threads were un reparable. And yes I had lock tight on them before. Nothing major just had to walk away from my days ride.

I've been using RunKeeper for this. I like it because it's simple and you can upload not only MTB rides, but other stuff I do (Hiking, Running, etc.) and have them accessible on their web site which combines more fitness based tracking and a social aspect. You can also correct (or complete if your battery doesn't survive the whole trip) your route, or even manually add an entire route. http://runkeeper.com
Yes great app! I got the pro version when it went free for a day and my wife and I use it for running. I just prefer to get all my stats instantly on the phone and see the graph on the phone as I will never look if I have to put it on the web or computer. But I love how you can track your pace and such. I have been trying to find an app that is runkeeper but with more maps and stats. I like BikeMateGPs but it has always been too buggy for me as on rides it will fail or record inaccurate.
I am a huge GPS Guru and have many iphone apps and palm apps for GPS'ing.

Hit this link up GPS Comparison the review is a bit old but I think most the missing features from each are still missing. MotionX has way more features but the few it lacks are what I am looking for in a GPs app and Trails has its benefits but lacks a lot of data and map choices. I guess I stick with GPs Kit due to Google Terrain maps, in my opinion Google Terrain maps are by far the best maps for biking and most outdoor sports.

That's a great comparison, I have both Trails and MotionX. My opinion on MotionX is that yeah, it has the features, but the interface sucks so I could never get past that point. Trails is much more user-friendly out of those two, and AccuTerra is even better so far with the interface.
Yeah MotionX needs to kill the fancy UI and go for Usability. I never got into Trails, no enough stats, though I love editing the paths when the GPS if off a bit or I took the wrong turn. Wish GPS Kit had a lite edition so you could try it the developers are working on a huge update for retina display and all, they live up in Utah near you I believe. I love the UI and the insane amount of customization and usability the app has. edited by MtnBiker on 9/21/2010

Yeah I think all the GPS apps have some sort of map caching. GPS kit for example you just have to see it on the screen and it is auto cached. Trails and Gaia GPS, and MotionX you select an area and it will download and save the maps and zoom levels. I just got an email yesterday from the GPS Kit dev and he is sending me the GPS Kit 4 beta soon. I am excited to test it out and I will see if he will let me share some of the new features on here.
I got a version of AccuTerra on a promo code. I just never got into it cause I felt like I had to buy each area. What version do you have?

I will have to look back into accuterra a bit.
Just got GPs Kit Beta 4 version and I can say that it will blow all competition out of the water!! It now give you every choice of map type available bing, google, open source, even the google cycle maps that show bike paths in your area. It also has a way to add your own source of maps. All maps can be cached and downloaded very easily now with the best UI I have seen to date for downloading maps.
They re-wrote the whole app from ground up keeping the same UI basics but making the UI much sleeker. THey mentioned the re-write to me as they can now easily and effectively add new features much better and faster, and plan on doing so.
It has all the iOS 4 features background, retina support, any .gpx or kml (not sure if others are supported) file in your email will now have the option to "Open in GPS Kit" by far the easiest way to get the file into the app!! I believe all other apps still use and email to this email then get the email response and open it approach.
I will post some more details but alas it is too late I must sleep. If anyone has questions on what it will do then let me know I can answer them.
