Fork recommendations?
|
I'm looking around at some possibilities for a new fork, does anyone have any good recommendations? I'm looking for one with between 120-140mm of travel. Thanks!

Utah??

Do we have any Utah bikers on here yet? Especially up north, I'm looking for some trail recommendations for Davis County...

Tracking?
|
Thanks for the app, and the great site! I'm definitely glad I stumbled upon this gem of a site.
One feature I was curious about is whether it was possible to fit GPS tracking, so that uploading could be simplified?
Just a thought. Anyway, thanks again! It's excellent to be able to have the trail maps right on my phone!

Valve stem problems
|
A friend of mine who I ride with frequently has recently been plagued with the problem of one or more flat tires on every ride. The cause appears to be that his tube is rotating around the rim, putting pressure on the valve stem, effectively popping the tire.
Anyway, has anyone dealt with this problem? And are there any ideas for a solution? I had the idea to spray a tiny bit of hairspray on the inside of the tire to get it to keep from rotating, I've yet to test this method though. Thanks!

29 vs 26
|
Hey all! I'm currently running on the standard 26" bike, but hope to upgrade possibly very soon, and was wondering if anyone has rode both a 29er and a 26er, and what the general opinion on them was.
29" makes sense in all ways but one to me, and that is that it would raise your center of gravity, making downhill a bit harder.

My ride
|
Bought it just this last summer, just a cheap 2011 Specialized Hardrock Sport Disc, upgraded the brakes to Tektron Auriga, and looking to upgrade the fork soon, and keep it around for a spare after I buy a good full-suspension bike (maybe a Specialized Enduro?).

Anyway, I was just curious what some of the other riders around here have! Lets see some pics

What to carry on the trail
|
I usually just carry my Camelbak MULE, with a couple spare tubes (because my buddy never fails to get a flat ), a few tools, and some Clif Bars!

Fezzari - Alta PEak 2010
|
It definitely looks like a solid bike, I'd say it's a great choice. Fezzari is always a good brand for components, although I've never ridden one of their frames.

Has anyone every tried this bike? What's the general consensus?

Bennie Creek drop, Payson Utah

One of my favorite trails, this is a portion with switchbacks and an optional drop that's about 6ish feet.

Fork recommendations?

Yeah my friend has one of those. It seems nice and plush and reliable.
I recently bought a Kona Stinky, and it has a Marzocchi Triple Drop Off. I've heard many bad reviews, but I like it a lot

Still have the Hardrock kicking around, but I just bought a Kona Stinky to satisfy me until I have the cash for an Enduro!

iPhone GPS apps?

I've been using the iPhone app Trails, it works great and is able to download GPX files.

Valve stem problems

Ah yeah, I have been trying different options, and my local bike shop recommended the baby powder, it worked great so far! Of course I've only ridden it on a 7.5 mile XC race. Now the problem is I bent the front rim pretty good

Trail Repairs
|
Last time I went up to a local ski resort, my front skewer decided to strip, enough to the point that it wouldn't tighten enough to keep the front rim on tight, but it wouldn't go loose enough to take off and repair. I ended up riding down to the bottom with a loose rim, and when I got to the bottom, I used a zip tie to keep the quick-release lever tight.

iPhone GPS apps?

Actually I just bought the app AccuTerra, I haven't had the time to test it out for tracking but it seems to be the highest resolution, and you can download all the maps and have them when you don't have service. I'm going for a ride on Saturday, I'll let everyone know how well it tracks.

iPhone GPS apps?

Hit this link up GPS Comparison the review is a bit old but I think most the missing features from each are still missing. MotionX has way more features but the few it lacks are what I am looking for in a GPs app and Trails has its benefits but lacks a lot of data and map choices. I guess I stick with GPs Kit due to Google Terrain maps, in my opinion Google Terrain maps are by far the best maps for biking and most outdoor sports.
That's a great comparison, I have both Trails and MotionX. My opinion on MotionX is that yeah, it has the features, but the interface sucks so I could never get past that point. Trails is much more user-friendly out of those two, and AccuTerra is even better so far with the interface.

Opinions on brakes
|
Ok, so I went on a pretty intense ride today, and I have the Hayes Nine hydraulic brakes. I just gotta say, I'm not impressed. Hayes kinda sucked a big one on those.
Does anyone have any preferences when it comes to the brakes? From what my buddies say, Avid is the way to go. I had some cheap Tektro Aurigas on my other bike, and they were satisfactory.
The brakes I'm really wondering about are the Avid Elixir Fives. I just found some for cheap, and didn't want to pass them up so I bought them. Any reviews? Thanks!

Utah??

Just in case we have some lurking Utah members, just thought I'd throw out a recommendation.
I just added the trail Stump Jumper that's up Payson Canyon, and I'd highly recommend it if you're into the downhill stuff. It's gold!
